MarineGEO - Hong Kong

MarineGEO (Global Earth Observatory) is a new global initiative to understand the biodiversity and ecosystem functioning of our coastal seas.

Launched by the Smithsonian Institution in 2012, with a generous donation from the Tennenbaum family, The Tennenbaum Marine Observatories form the foundation of the global program. Partner institutions are launching their own grassroots efforts worldwide, and MarineGEO - Hong Kong is the first program to launch in Asia. With a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2015, our program is now raising kickstarter funding to conduct a first high tech assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in Hong Kong. We aim to discover up to 60% new species records for Hong Kong, and reveal the important ecosystem functions and services that our marine environment provides the people of Hong Kong.
